Sporting Clube de Portugal have officially unveiled their 2025-26 home kit, produced by Nike, marking the return of the club’s most iconic design: the green and white hoops. After the experimental tricolor stripes of the 2024-25 season, fans had been eagerly awaiting a return to tradition. The new kit not only revives Sporting’s timeless look but also adds a detail unseen in years, making this launch one of the most celebrated in recent memory.
Design and Technical Features
The Sporting CP 2025-26 home shirt features wide green and white horizontal hoops across the body, complemented by a classic crew neck collar. For the first time since Nike became shirt supplier, the hoops also extend onto the sleeves, a detail fans last enjoyed during the 2020-21 season under Macron.
The Nike Swoosh appears in green, while the club crest is displayed in full colour on the left chest. The main sponsor, Betano, is printed in black across the front, while Super Bock branding occupies the upper back. On the reverse, the shirt features a white panel at the top and bottom, framing the hoops for visual balance. A silver authenticity badge combining SCP initials and Nike branding is applied near the hem.
The jersey is built with Nike’s Dri-FIT technology, engineered for lightweight comfort and moisture control. The full kit is completed with black shorts and hooped green-and-white socks, creating a look that unites performance-driven innovation with traditional design.
History and Inspiration
Few clubs in world football are as closely tied to their kit identity as Sporting Clube de Portugal. For nearly a century, the green and white hoops have represented not just a design choice but a philosophy of passion, dedication, and resilience. The colours green and white, alongside the rampant lion crest, embody the ideals of effort, devotion, and glory that have been central to Sporting since its foundation in 1906.
The story of the club’s kits stretches back to its origins. Sporting’s precursor, Sport Club de Belas, played in white. This later evolved into vertical green-and-white stripes under the influence of the founding member Francisco Stromp, a talented athlete whose legacy lives on in the “Stromp kit,” still used today as an alternate strip. The transition to horizontal hoops was inspired by Sporting’s rugby team and has since become the club’s unmistakable visual signature, distinguishing it from football teams worldwide.
Despite changes brought by sponsorships and evolving aesthetics from the 1980s onward, Sporting has remained loyal to its traditional colours. The return of sleeve hoops in 2025-26 is a deliberate homage to history, evoking memories of past generations while connecting the present squad to more than a hundred years of club identity.
Usage and Debut
The new home kit was officially released on May 20, 2025, with a campaign celebrating pride and heritage: “Because there are things that deserve to be shown with pride.”
Players debuted the kit during pre-season friendlies before the start of the Liga Portugal campaign, where it will be worn throughout domestic competitions, the Taça de Portugal, and in European fixtures. The launch carries added significance, coinciding with Sporting’s celebration of a second consecutive league title, reinforcing the link between the hoops and triumph on the pitch.
